Criminal investigation launched after stones are thrown at trains

The Brussels Judicial Authorities have launched an investigation after youths pelted trains with stones for the second evening running on Wednesday. The incidents happened on the same stretch of track between Schaarbeek Station and Brussels North.

On Tuesday evening the stone throwers’ actions led to rail services being disrupted in a large part of the country and thousands of commuters being stranded at station, eventually getting home a couple of hours later than normal.

The Judicial Authorities are investigating whether the two incidents are linked. The Interior Minister Jan Jambon wrote on Twitter yesterday that the vandals should be given stiff sentences if they are court.
