New American ambassador Ronald Gidwitz takes office

The new American ambassador to Belgium, Ronald Gidwitz, has had his official meeting with King Filip. This happened on the 4th of July, the American national holiday. Gidwitz has now officially started his task as ambassador.  

On Twitter, Foreign Minister Didier Reynders welcomed Ronald Gidwitz, after which the new ambassador to Belgium sent a reply as a thanks. "Looking forward to deepening our historic alliance with the Belgian government and the Belgian people", he said. 

Gidwitz (73)  was designated by president Donald Trump on 18 May. His appointment was given the green light in the American Senate  on 28 June.  The businessman made major financial contributions to Republican election campaigns in the past - the Chicago Tribune is talking of 700,000 dollars - and he is said to have developed a strong link with Donald Trump during the past campaign.
