Two held following racist attack

Two suspects have been detained in connection with the mutilation of a young Muslim woman in the Walloon municipality of Anderlues (Hainaut) last Monday.  During the attack the woman was pushed to the ground, her clothes were torn off and cuts were made on her body.

Investigators in Charleroi insist they have not yet established that the two suspects were actually involved in the attack and that the investigation is ongoing.

The attack on the 19-year-old occurred last Monday as the women went in search of a dog that had gone missing.  Two passers-by wearing masks displaying the colours of the Belgian football team berated and insulted the woman, pushed her to the ground tore off her headscarf and top and made cuts on her arms, chest and stomach.  They then fled away.

The two suspects deny all involvement.
