Taking third place at a World Cup would be an unprecedented feat for the Belgian national team, although this "golden generation" with top players from various competitions was dreaming of more.
The group match was won by Belgium (1-0) after a piece of magic by Adnan Januzaj. There was nothing at stake then - or actually there was, i.e. a place in the easier part of the table, which England grabbed after the loss. Some Belgian fans are still thinking about where the bottom half of the table would have taken Belgium, but it's all water under the bridge now.
This afternoon (4PM CET) in Saint-Petersburg, it's about third place and a bronze medal. Both coaches have already said that don't want to end the tournament with back-to-back defeats. Belgian coach Roberto Martinez also celebrated his 45th birthday yesterday and the players know what birthday present he would like best.
Can Romelu Lukaku catch Harry Kane?
The clash also opposes strikers Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku. Can they add to their tally? Who becomes the World Cup top scorer? Kane boasts 6 goals at present, Lukaku 4.
There will be hardly 500 Belgian fans in the stadium which can accomodate a crowd of 67,000. They will see that the Belgian team only changes in two places: winger Thomas Meunier returns after being suspended, while midfielders Marouane Fellaini and Moussa Dembele start on the bench. The surprise of the day is Youri Tielemans in midfield. The youngster will play alongside Axel Witsel.
England's Gareth Southgate has changed his team in five places.
