Belgian Ryanair pilots plan to strike

There could be disruption to the travel plans of many thousands of Ryanair customers next week as two unions that represent the airline’s pilots have called on their members to take strike action. The Christian trade union  and the Belgian Cockpit Association (BeCA) have called on the Ryanair pilots among their members to strike on Friday 10 August.

The strike would be part of a Europe-wide series of strikes by Ryanair staff. On 25 and 26 June Ryanair cabin crew in a number of European countries, including Belgium, took strike action.  The union and the pilots’ association says that Ryanair management has used intimidation against those that have taken part in the industrial action. Ryanair has also announced that the jobs of 100 pilots and 200 crew are to be transfer to from Ireland to Poland.

The unions are calling on fort his decision to be reversed and the (alleged) intimidation to be stopped. The unions also call on the national and European authorities to condemn Ryanair’s practices.
