Vilvoorde to host Europe's biggest under water film studio

The construction of Europe's largest under water film studio is underway near Vilvoorde station. It should be ready early next year. The studio will be used for films featuring under water shots.

The studios belong to Lites, a company renting out technical material for film productions. Lites CEO Wim Michiels, a camera man himself, often shot takes for underwater scenes. He realised this took a lot of time and effort; a special film studio built for this purpose should make things less complicated.

The studio includes a water basin 9 metres deep, covering a surface of 480 square metres. "However, we also have the option of just flooding the whole studio to get a total surface of 1,250 square metres", explains Michiels. The studio is aimed at international film productions.
