An evening of last-gasp efforts: AA Gent saved in the 95th minute

In football, AA Gent had to be content with a draw against Zulte Waregem. Canada's Jonathan David equalised for Gent in the dying seconds. In other action of the second day of play, Cercle Brugge squeezed past Lokeren.

AA Gent almost missed their start to the new season completely. Having lost 3-2 at Standard last week, they were 0-1 down yesterday against Zulte Waregem, until striker Jonathan David beat Zulte goalkeeper Sammy Bossuyt in the final seconds of extra time with a low shot in the left corner. The goal was a boost for AA Gent before their Europa League qualifier against Bialystok of Poland next Thursday.

In other action, newly promoted Cercle Brugge beat Lokeren 3-2 - also with a last-gasp effort - while Sporting Charleroi took it 1-4 in Eupen.  KAS Eupen and Sporting Lokeren are bottom of the table with zero points from two games.

Royal Antwerp FC drew 0-0 against KV Kortrijk. On Friday, Standard had been held to a goalless draw by Waasland Beveren in Beveren.
