Nicky Degrendele takes silver in the keirin

Nicky Degrendele just missed out on gold in the keirin at the European Cycling Champions in Glasgow. However, she took the silver medal instead. The race was won by Mathilde Gros of France.

Degrendele had put her best foot forward in the first and second rounds, winning both races and going into the final as favourite.

In the final she was allotted number 4, which meant that she remained the 4th rider behind the pacemaker for some time.

As soon as the pacemaker left the circuit, Nicky Degrendele shot forward like an arrow. The Belgian provided plenty of excitement, but was unable to pull ahead the eventual race winner Mathilde Gros. The French rider showed her determination and retained the lead until the finish.
