Bashir Abdi applied a wait and see approach during the first half of the race. He then turned things up a gear and was soon able to separate the corn from the chaff. He was in the leading group and there he remained for the rest of the race.

There were five men standing in the leading group during the final lap. Bashir Abdi set off from pole position towards the finishing line. However, the Frenchman Morhad Amdouni overtook him in the final metres, leaving the Belgian in second place. The other Belgians in the race Soufiane Bouchikhi and Simon Debognies came in 6th and 15th respectively.
