Young Fleming missing in the Balkans

A 23-year-old man from Zaventem in Flemish Brabant has been missing for over a week on the border between Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Gert-Jan Dobbelaere was on a holiday in Croatia. He had driven to the Balkans in his own car and also planned to visit Bosnia.

He had driven to the Balkans in his own car and also planned to visit Bosnia. He last contacted his family on 27 July while he was in the Croatian city of Dubrovnic. There was a sighting of him in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo two days later on 29 July. The Federal Police Missing Persons’ Cell and the Halle-Vilvoorde Judicial Authorities have opened an investigation in to Mr Dobbelaere’s disappearance.     

 

It is certain they he crossed the border into Bosnia and there was a reported sighting of Gert-Jan Dobbelaere in Sarajevo. He was holidaying alone in what was a Balkan road trip.  

As well as having reported his disappearance to the police, Gert-Jan Dobbelaere’s family are using social media in an effort to trace him.  

His brother Steven posted the following message on Facebook:

"Did any one of you see or hear my brother recently? Did he tell you anything about his travelling plans for the coming days? The last time we heard from him was on the 27th of July and he was in Dubrovnik at that moment in time. UPDATE: He was reported in Sarajevo on the 29th of July. He initially planned on being back the 31st of July, but never did. He was driving a Volkswagen Polo with Belgian license plate ACF-766.
