Wins for Zulte Waregem and RFC Antwerp

Four of this weekend’s First Division games were played on Saturday evening. There were wins for Zulte Waregem and RFC Antwerp. The match between Sint-Truiden and Sporting Lokeren ended in a one-all draw, while the game between Standard de Liège and Cercle Brugge ended goalless.

At 37 Thomas Buffel still very much has what it takes. Having arrived at Zulte Waregem from KRC Genk during the closed season, Buffel certainly proved his worth on Saturday evening, scoring twice in three minutes in Zulte Waregem’s 4-0 drubbing of KAS Eupen. Buffel’s goals came on 35 and 38 minutes.

Goals from Hicham Faik on 56 minutes and Damien Marcq in the second minute of stoppage to make for a final score of 4-0 to Zulte Waregem. After 3 games KAS Eupen still have no points.

Antwerp win at Excel Mouscron

Despite being clearly the superior side, It took Royal Football Club Antwerp until the 81st minute to score in their game away at Excel Mouscron. William Owusu (photo below) did the honours.

RFC Antwerp are enjoying a great start to the season with 7 points from 3 games. The same cannot be said of Excel Mouscron who have no points.

Disappointing draw for Standard

After Tuesday’s great comeback against Ajax in their Champions League qualify, Standard de Liège will have been expecting a bit more than a goalless draw against newly promoted Cercle Brugge.

The visitors defended well and all things considered were good value for their draw.

It was the second draw in a row for Sint-Truiden. This week the Canaries drew 1—1 at home against Sporting Lokeren. Both goals fell in the second half. Guus Hupperts opened the scoring for Lokeren on 78 minutes with Mohamed Buya equalising for Sint-Truiden 6 minutes later.
