AA Gent and KRC Genk through to the final qualifying round of the Europa League

There was success for both of our teams competing in the qualifying stage of this season’s UEFA Europa League. AA Genk added to their 1-0 advantage from the first leg to beat Jagiellonia Bialystok 3-1 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate. KRC Genk won the return leg against Lech Poznan 2-1 in Poland on Thursday evening.

This combined with their 2-0 win in the first leg in Genk means that the Limburgers qualify with an aggregate score of 4-1.

A dominant KRC Genk scored both their goals in the first half. Mbwana Samatta opened the scoring for Genk on 20 minutes.

Leandro Trossard (photo above) made it 2-0 in the second minute of stoppage time to make for a half time score of 2-0 in KRC Genk’s favour. Tomasz Cywka’s goal on 52 minutes for Lech Poznan proved to be too little, too late for the Poles. KRC Genk will take on the Danish side Brondby for a place in the group stage of the Europa League The first leg will be in Genk next Thursday with the second leg to be played in Denmark on 30 August.
