Black lad pushed onto railway tracks in racist attack

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of pushing a 15-year-old black boy onto the tracks at Aarschot station at the weekend.  The incident has attracted a lot of attention after a video was posted on Facebook showing a brawl involving the boy and three white people, a man and two women.

According to prosecutors the white man pushed the black boy and one of the women launched into racist insults.  The two continued to provoke the youngster both verbally and physically.  A fight ensued and it is then that the man pushed the boy onto the tracks.  The fight continued on the tracks.  The boy's sister intervened, but she too was hit.

Signalling staff noticed the incident with people on the tracks and stopped rail traffic.

The suspect was detained in the station loo.  A 43-year-old woman also reported to the police.  Both under the influence of drugs and drink. Prosecutors are investigating suspected premeditated GBH with a racist motive.
