"Dangerous drones" no longer welcome at Brussels Airport

Zaventem Airport, near Brussels has put up 20 signs around its perimeter fence. The signs are designed to make people aware that flying drones is not allowed in the vicinity of the airport. Currently far too many drone-owners don’t respect the ban and this leads to dangerous situations.

There are large stretches of open land around the airport that are perfect for flying drones. However, this is not without risk and there are dangers if a drone flies too close to the airport.

Brussels Airport’s Anke Fransen told VRT News that “People sometimes don’t realise where they are”.

“They sometimes don’t know the area or they don’t know the capacity of their drones and they go too far. A collision with an aircraft could have fatal consequences”, Ms Francken added.

Anyone one caught flying drones above the airport risks a hefty fine.
