Tunnel closure likely to cause big delays

The rush hour is likely to be a difficult one for those using the eastern section of the Brussels Orbital Motorway this Tuesday evening. The Vierarmen Tunnel at Tervuren has been closed to traffic in both direction after work on high tension power cable caused a power cut.

With the lights having failed in the tunnel it was decided to close it to traffic in both directions. Motorists will have to use the over ground lanes of the motorway.

This is likely to cause big delays. The emergency power supply to the tunnel proved insufficient to provide adequate light. The Flemish Roads and Traffic Agency says that it is doing all it can to restore power as quickly as possible so that the tunnel can re-open.
