Missing rower's body found in Brussels to Willebroek Canal

The body of a rower that fell into the water on the Brussels to Willebroek Canal at Grimbergen (Flemish Brabant) at around 8pm on Saturday evening has been found. Another rower that also fell into the canal was pulled out straight away on Saturday evening.

A large scale search and rescue operation, involving the fire service and a police helicopter was started. However, by 10:30 pm on Saturday night there was still no sign of the missing rower and the search was called off for the night.

The search re-opened on Sunday morning and the body of the rower was eventually found just after noon.
