Antwerp make light work of Zulte Waregem, AA Gent slip up against Sint-Truiden

In the final 2 Belgian First Division games of the weekend Royal Football Club Antwerp enjoyed a convincing 5-1 home win against Zulte Waregem, while later in the evening AA Gent lost 2-1 at home against Sint-Truiden.

RFC Antwerp’s loyal band of fans had plenty to cheer about on Sunday evening. Rafaelov opened the scoring for The Great Old on 7 minutes with Arslanagic making it 2-0 to Antwerp on 10 minutes.

Zulte Waregem went down to 10 men when Damien Marcq was given a red card on 15 minutes. An Onwusu goal on 27 minutes made for a half time score of 3-0 in Antwerp’s favour. Davy De Fauw pulled one back for Zulte Waregem on 53 minutes.

However, it was always going to be too little and a second Onwusu goal on 62 minutes and a goal from Haroun (photo below) in the first minute of stoppage time made for a final score of 5-1 to Antwerp. The result sees RFC Antwerp move up to 3rd place with 15 points from 7 games. Zulte Waregem is 13th with 5 points.

Canaries on song in Ghent

A goal from Alexis De Sart on 21 minutes and from Daichi Kamada on 80 minutes were enough to see Sint-Truiden take all three points from their trip to AA Gent on Sunday evening.

AA Gent’s goal came from Dylan Bronn on 51 minutes. Sint-Truiden’s Roman Bezus was sent off on 86 minutes for his second bookable offence of the game.

The result sees Sint-Truiden move up to 8th place with 10 points from 7 games. AA Gent are 5th with 13 point.
