Thibaut Courtois is the World’s best keeper

The Belgian international and former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has won the FIFA trophy for the world’s best goalkeeper. He was presented with the award at a ceremony in London on Monday evening. Meanwhile, another Belgian international, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, was selected for FIFA’s team of the year.

Speaking on the VRT’s pop music station MNM from his home in Madrid on Tuesday morning, Thibaut Courtois told listeners that "I haven’t slept much because we had to fly back to Madrid. We were delayed so we didn’t land until 3am. I am going to have to go and train in a little while. I think that I’ll have a good siesta afterwards”.

Thibaut Courtois added that winning the trophy really means something to him.

"The trophy for best keeper of 2018 is a really nice recognition of my work. This is only the second year that FIFA has been awarding the trophy annually. It really means something”.

The award comes on top of the award Thibaut Courtois was given for being the best goalkeeper of the World Cup.

But what do Thibaut Courtois’ children think about their dad winning all these awards?

"I don’t think they understand. I haven’t seen my daughter (aged 3) yet as she has already left for school. In a couple of years she will understand better. My son (aged 1) will need a year longer”.

" I want to improve more and prove who I am”

The world’s best goalkeeper left Chelsea for Real Madrid during the closed season. He returned to Spain for his children. Initially he was on the bench at Real, but is now part of the club’s starting 11.

"I am ready to play every match if the coach needs me. By working hard at training I want to improve more and prove who I am”, Thibaut Courtois concluded.
