Victory for Remco Evenepoel at the Cycling World Cup

The Fleming Evenepoel has won the junior time trial at the World Cycling Championships in the Austrian city of Innsbruck. The 18-year-old from Schepdaal in Flemish Brabant didn’t crack under the pressure that came with being the favourite to win the race. He finished one and a half minutes ahead of the Australian Lucas Plapp. Another Fleming Ilan Van Wilder came in 6th.

Remco Evenepoel has had an impressive season and is set to turn professional in January when he will join the Quick-Step team.

As the first time registration point wasn’t until 18 kilometres into the circuit there was no lack of suspense. However, this proved unnecessary as Remco Evenepoel passed it 50 second quicker than his Australian rival.

This spurred the Flemish Brabant youngster on still further and he sped on towards the finish, end the race a full 1 minute 23 seconds quicker than Lucas Plapp.

After Jurgen Van den Broeck and the late Igor Decraene to whom he dedicated his win, Remco Evenepoel is the 3rd Belgium to become World Junior Time Trial Champion.
