Queen Paola is "back at home"

Queen Paola of the Belgians has left the Saint-Luc Hospital in Brussels after tests.  The queen returned unexpectedly to Belgium on Wednesday after she became unwell in Venice in her native Italy.

The queen spent the night at the hospital but was able to go home today.    Francophone media spoke of a stroke.  In the course of Wednesday the palace indicated that the 81-year old queen's condition was not life-threatening.  Further tests were carried out this morning.  The palace has confirmed that the queen suffered a slight stroke.  She recovered spontaneously and will not have any permanent damage.  The queen has been given "appropriatie preventative medicines".

Queen Paola and her husband, King Albert, insisted on the tests being carried out in Belgium by doctors familiar with her condition.
