Big names fall at first hurdle in the Belgian Cup.

No fewer than 6 First Division clubs have been knock out of the Belgian Cup in the first round in which they participated. Among them were three of Belgian football’s biggest names.

On Wednesday evening the League Champions Club Brugge were knocked out by the Deinze from the First Amateur League (Third Division). Another club from the third tier of Belgian football Knokke beat the last season’s cup winners Standard De Liège.

The Brussels derby between First Division Sporting Anderlecht and Second Division Union Saint-Gilloise also provided a shock result with Union winning by 3 goals to 0.
