Efficient Eupen claim victory against lacklustre Kortrijk

In the first of the weekend’s Belgian First Division games KAS Eupen enjoyed a 3-1 win away at KV Kortrijk. The 450 kilometre round trip to Kortrijk (West Flanders) proved to be very rewarding indeed for team from the German-Speaking town in the East of Liège Province.

KAS Eupen took the lead just three minutes in when Pouraliganji scored. However, the Pandas’ joy was short-lived and Stojanovic put KV Kortrijk level just three minutes later.

Despite Kortrijk taking command it was KAS Eupen that scored. Once again their efficiency from set pieces was rewarded with a goal. Xavi Molina put the visitors 2-1 up on 24 minutes. Eupen found the back of the net for a third time before half time.

However, Luis Garcia’s effort was disallowed as the VAR had spotted handball. The second half couldn’t have started worse for KV Kortrijk with KAS Eupen’s Luis Garcia scoring from the penalty spot just a minute in. Eupen defended strongly and KV Kortrijk were unable to break through the Eupen defence.

The result sees KV Kortijk having taken just 1 point from their last 4 home games. KV Kortrijk is 12 in the league with 8 points from 9 games. KAS Eupen is 9th with 10 points.
