Flemish film honoured at Zürich Film Festival

A Flemish film has been awarded the prize for best film at the Zürich Film Festival in Switzerland. The film Girl directed by Lukas Dhont received the Golden Eye Award on Saturday evening. The film that deals with gender issues beat off competition from The Guilty, Tel Aviv on Fire and C’est ça l’amour. This is Girl’s ninth prize since the film premiered in Cannes in May.   

 

Girl is also the official Belgian nominee for the Oscars. In addition to this it has also been nominated for the European Parliament’s LUX Film Prize. Next Tuesday (16 September) Girl will be the opening film at the Film Fest Gent film festival in the East Flemish city of Ghent.   

Critics’ prize for Nos Batailles

Girl was not the only Belgian film to be honoured at an international film festival on Saturday. The Franco-Belgian director Guillaume Senez’s Nos Batailles won the Critic's Choice Award) at the closing ceremony of the Hamburg International Film Festival in Germany.
