Wins for Standard, Genk and Anderlecht

In Sunday’s Belgian First Division games there were victories for Sporting Anderlecht; Standard de Liège and Racing Genk. Genk’s away win at AA Gent and Standard’s win at home against Club Brugge mean that after 10 games Racing Genk are now top of the Belgian First Division with a one-point advantage over Club Brugge.

A goal by Zakaria Bakkali (photo below, left) just before half time and a Peter Gerkens on 78 minutes saw Sporting Anderlecht get a much needed win against Zulte Waregem.

The match ended 2-1 in Anderlecht’s favour. Zulte Waregem’s goal came from Thomas Buffel in the third minute of injury time. Sporting Anderlecht are 3rd with 20 points from 10 games. Zulte Waregem are now next to bottom (15th) with just 5 points.

Standard outplay Club Brugge on every front

In a match that was dominated by Standard much of the first half was marked by their inability to turn their many chances into goals. However, this chanced when Medhi Carcela (photo below) opened the scoring for Standard on 37 minutes.

The half finished 1-0 in standard’s favor. It was more of the same in the second half and Renaud Emond’s (top photo) goal on 62 minutes put the home side 2-0 up. Standard’s Christian Luyindama put the goal past his own keeper to make it 2-1. Any doubts that it would be Standard’s evening were pushed a side when Marin made it 3-1 10 minutes from time.

The result sees Standard move up to 5th place with 18 points from 10 games. After what was their first league defeat Club Brugge slip back to 2nd place in the league and have 25 points from 10 games.

KRC Genk top after convincing win at AA Gent

Racing Genk have moved up to the top spot in the Belgian First Division in style after a convincing 5-1 win away at AA Gent. Samatta opened the scoring for Genk on 17 minutes.

The visitors when 2-0 up a minute later when Paintsil scored. Ndongola made it 3-0 to Genk on 27 minutes. Dylan Bronn pulled one back for AA Gent on 38 minutes. AA Gent’s Brecht Dejaegere was sent off on 42 minutes for his second bookable offence.

With a man more KRC Genk were dominant. Malinovskiy scored on 67 minutes and AA Gent’s humiliation was complete Paintsil scored his second and KRC Genk’s 5th goal of the evening to make for a final score of 5-1 to Genk.

The result sees KRC Genk move up to 1st place in the league with 26 points from 10 games. AA Gent is
