1212 consortium raises 1 million euro for Sulawesi

The 1212 consortium that is made 7 humanitarian aid NGOs has raised 1 million euro for its appeal to help the victims of the tsunami and earthquake on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The consortium that consists of Caritas International, Red Cross Flanders, Handicap International, Doctors of the World, Oxfam Solidarity, Plan International Belgium and UNICEF Belgium announced that its appeal fund had topped the 1 million euro mark earlier today.

The 1 million euro includes 250,000 donated by the Flemish Government and 25,000 euro donated by the province of Walloon Brabant. The appeal was launched last week and since then there have been advertisements for the appeal on television and radio.

In a press statement released on Tuesday the 12-12 consortium said "The natural disaster continues to move people here and moves them to solidarity”

Caritas International, het Red Cross, Doctors of the World, Handicap International, Oxfam-Solidarity, Plan Belgium and Belgium will used the money for emergency disaster relieve such as the distribution of food and clean drinking water and proving sanitary facilities.  

Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by transfering money onto the 12-12 consortium’s account, BE19 0000 0000 12-12, or onto the individual account  of one of the 7 NGO’s that are part of the consortium.
