Football scandal: key figures questioned

Work continues on a major investigation into money laundering and match-fixing in Belgian football.  On Wednesday raids were staged across the country and beyond targeting several first division football clubs.

A number of people, football agents, former officials and referees were taken into custody for questioning.   Football agents Mogi Bayat and Dejan Veljkovic will be questioned further.  An examining magistrate will decide whether Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko has to remain in custody. Referees Sébastien Delferière and Bart Vertenten are also appearing before an examining magistrate.

Three journalists including one on the leading Flemish daily Het Laatste Nieuws are being questioned too.

How many people are implicated in this affair and what charges hey will face is still unclear.  Belgian prosecutors are expected to reveal more this afternoon.
