Fresh arrest in money laundering and match fixing probe

Police have arrested Lokeren coach Peter Maes as part of a wide-ranging investigation into fraud across Belgian football. 

So far nine individuals have been arrested in this dossier including football agents Dejan Veljkovic and Mogi Bayat, referee Bart Vertenten, former lawyer Laurent Denis and Olivier Somers of KV Mechelen.

Peter Maes will appear before an examining magistrate on Wednesday.  His arrest is being linked to that of football agent Dejan Veljkovic.  Veljkovic is Maes's agent and is being investigated for money laundering and match fixing. 

Following questioning Maes was charged with money laundering and membership of a criminal organisation.  He was released but has to comply with certain conditions.  

Lokeren football club learned of the arrest of its coach via the media.  A press release says that two training sessions are planned for Wednesday.  Arnar Vidarsson will be in charge of the morning session.
