Two wins and a draw for our Europa league clubs

There were wins for KRC Genk and Standard de Liège and a 2-2 draw for Sporting Anderlecht in the Europa League group stage on Thursday evening. Despite being 2-0 up at one stage Sporting Anderlecht could only manage at draw at home against the Turkish club Fenerbahçe. 

Zakaria Bakkali scored both Anderlecht’s goals on 36 and 51 minutes. Michel Frey scored for Fenerbahçe on 54 minutes with Hassan Ali Kaldirim levelling the score on 58 minutes. The result means that Anderlecht remain bottom of Group D with 1 points from 3 games. Fenerbahçe are second in the group 4 points. 

Standard come back from behind to beat Krasnodar

Standard de Liège won their Europa League group stage game against the Russian side Krasnodar. Standard in Liège on Thursday evening. Ari put the Russian 1-0 up on 40 minutes. However, a Renaud Emond equaliser on 48 minutes and a Kostas Laifis (photo below) header in the 4th minute of stoppage time were enough to give Standard victory. Standard are 3rd in Group J with 6 points from 3 games. Krasnodar also have 6 points but are second in the group thanks to their superior goal difference.

Genk top Europa League group after victory in Turkey

Racing Genk put in another strong performance in their Europa League group stage match against Besiktas in Istanbul on Thursday evening two goals from Samatta (photo below) on 24 and 71 minutes mean that KRC Genk were leading 2-0 with just under 20 minutes to go.

However, Vagner Love’s 75th minutes goal gave Besiktas fresh hope. Goals by Ndongala on 81 minutes and Piotrowski on 84 minutes put Genk 4-1 up. Love’s second goal of the evening on 87 minutes proved to be too little, too late for Besiktas and the match ended 4-2 in KRC Genk’s favour. KRC Genk now top group I with 6 points from 3 games. Besiktas are bottom with 3 points.
