Post office unions issue strike notice

The trades unions at the Belgian Post Office bpost have issued a strike notice. Negotiations between the unions and bpost management broke down on Thursday evening. On Sunday evening the socialist trades union ACOD released a press statement on behalf of all the unions that represent post office staff in which the breakdown of formal talks with b-post management was announced.

The unions are unhappy about a plan drafted by bpost bosses for the future of the post office. Furthermore, “The perilous working conditions currently endured by bpost staff” are also a bone of contention.

ACOD’s Jean-Pierre Nyns told journalists that "We await the reaction of bpost’s CEO Koen Van Gerven and of the result of consultations with our members. There definitely won’t be a strike during the coming week, any strike won’t be until the week after the half term holiday at the earliest”.
