Yves Nuyts, Aviapartner's general manager handling, believes that the dispute could drag on for some while yet. Unions initially put 32 demands on the table, but cut them back to 22 in the hope of making a breakthrough. Some points have been settled, but others need to be discussed at industry sector level. Mr Nuyts adds that management have had to rule out some demands as “unacceptable”.
Unions and employers have reached broad agreement on working conditions. The management is unwilling to yield on bonuses and work organisation out of fears the company's finances could be endangered. Profitability has been under threat. The company hopes to return to the black by the end of the year.
Aviapartner also called in a bailiff as there were reports people willing to work were being stopped by strikers.
