Gritters out for the first time on Friday night

The Flemish Highways and Traffic Agency’s gritters were out in force on Friday night as temperatures plummeted. The decision to treat roads in a number of areas was taken as a precautionary measure. A total of 350 tonnes of salt was used to treat the roads during Friday night.

It was a very cold night with ground front in a number of areas. However, there were no reports of slippery conditions on the region’s roads. The Flemish Highways and Traffic Agency’s Viva Daniëls told VRT News that “We gritted as a precautionary measure on the motorways in Antwerp Province, Flemish Brabant and Limburg as we had noticed that the road surface temperature was around freezing”.
