A week of roadworks at busy motorway interchange

On Sunday evening the preparations for final phase of the roadworks on the busy Zwijnaarde Interchange that links the E40 and E17 motorways near Ghent in East Flanders gets under way. From Wednesday 7 November three of the four slip roads will be closed. 

Diversions will be in place. However, motorists should expect to face considerable delays to their journeys.    

Both the road surface and a bridge support will be renewed. The work is the final phase of a series of work that has been carried out on the E40 near Ghent.  

From Sunday night just 1 or 2 lanes will be open in each direction. Those returning from a long weekend could well end up in traffic jams between Aalter and Ghent (Both East Flanders).  

On Monday all three lanes on the coast bound carriageway of the E40 will be open to traffic as will be 2 of the 3 lanes on the Brussels-bound carriageway of the road. This will mean a more difficult drive into work for those travelling from the west to Ghent and Brussels.
