Duvel tea in the Jarr?

Duvel is arguably one of Belgium's most famous beers, but the Duvel Moortgat brewery that brews this beverage could soon be famous for yet another drink and this time its English tea!

Duvel Moortgat has snapped up a majority stake in Jarr of London, producers of the kombucha fermented tea.  The Belgian drinks group is diversifying and hopes to reap the rewards of the growing trend towards non-alcoholic and natural drinks.  The takeover of Jarr opens the way for investments in a new plant, but there are no immediate plans to bring fermented kombucha tea to the Belgian market. Jarr hopes to grow further in the UK and overseas and will now be able to call on Duvel's distribution network and know-how.

The group's CEO Michel Moortgat: "The way kombucha is made is very similar to beer.  It's the result of passionate people brewing a tasty drink with high quality ingredients."

Jarr's founders, Adam Vanni, Tom and Jess Seaton, and Neil Hinchley will retain day-to-day running of the business.
