King Filip and Queen Mathilde are in Berlin. They are visiting the German capital on the invitation of the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The visit is part of the commemorations for the centenary of World War I. More than 2 million Germans were killed during the Great War. A significant number of these died in hostilities here in Belgium. After a reception at Berlin Town Hall the Belgian Royal couple laid a wreath at the Central Memorial of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Victims of War and Dictatorship at the Old Guardhouse in the centre of Berlin.
