Debate but no confidence vote yet

The Federal Prime Minister Charles Michel has completed a round of talks with the leaders of the various groups in the Federal Parliament. A debate on the recent political developments will be held in the Chamber of Representatives tomorrow.

It is not yet clear if we can expect a policy statement from the minority government, nor whether a confidence vote will be held at some stage. Any confidence vote will be held next Tuesday at the earliest.

During tomorrow’s debate the Prime Minister will answer MP’s questions.

Backing from parliament is essential to the survival of Mr Michel’s government that is made up of parties that only have just over a third of all the MPs in parliament. In order to get measures passed the government will need to get the backing of opposition MPs. In the first instance it will look to the Flemish nationalists to get its centre-right socio-economic measures passed.
