Hi-Viz demonstrators gather near to the VRT’s broadcasting centre For the fourth successive Saturday so-called ‘Hi-Viz’ demonstrators have gathered in Brussels. This time they chose one of the capital’s busiest road intersections as the starting point for their protest.

At midday between 50 and 100 Hi-Viz demonstrators had gathered on the Meiserplein in Schaarbeek, just a couple of hundred metres from the VRT’s broadcasting centre. The protesters hoped to be able to march the 4 or so kilometres to the centre of Brussels. Although unauthorized the gathering and subsequent march has been tolerated. By 2pm the Hi-Viz protesters were reported to be in the vicinity of the Congress Column in Brussels City Centre.

Ilse Van de keere of the Brussels-Capital-Elesne Local Police service told VRT News that the protesters have not hindered traffic. The Hi-Viz protesters want wages to rise to help counter what they see as a fall in purchasing power, extra meeasures to tackle fiscal fraud and for ordinary citizens to be given a greater say in democratic process.
