Knowing that their match against Club Brugge was going to be tricky RFC Antwerp brought some extra muscle into the defence. There were a couple of early chances for Club Brugge’s Wesley and Dennis before things calmed down in front of the Antwerp goal. Club Brugge’s first goal came somewhat out of the blue. A seemingly innocent shot by Dennis flew over 5 players and into goal. It was 1-0 after 21 minutes of play.
This forced Antwerp to change tack. However, they were unable to produce anything in the way of chances. Club Brugge decided to give the fans something more to cheer about and went Schrijvers (photo above) chipped the ball over Bolat it was 2-0 to Club Brugge after 40 minutes of play.
It was more of the same in the second half. A dominant Club Brugge made it 3-0 through Mats Rits on 54 minutes. RFC Antwerp’s humiliated seemed complete when Dennis score his second and Club Brugge’s fourth goal of the afternoon on 65 minutes. RFC Antwerp scored a consolation goal through Van Damme on 84 minutes.
However, this was always going to be too little, too late and a Hans Vanaken penalty on 87 minutes produced a final score of 5-1 in Club Brugge’s favour.
