Another blow for Anderlecht, onwards and upwards for Standard

Four of this weekend’s First Division matches were played on Saturday evening. In the 6pm kick-off there was another blow for Sporting Anderlecht as they were beat 3-1 away at Excel Mouscron. In the 8pm kick-offs Waasland-Beveren beat near-neighbours Sporting Lokeren 2-1 and Sint-Truiden drew 0-0 at home against KV Kortrijk. Later in the evening Standard de Liège enjoyed at convince 3-1 home win against KV Oostende.

Can things get any worse for Sporting Anderlecht. The 34-times League Champions suffered yet another defeat on Saturday evening. The sacking of Coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck seems to have done nothing to change the boys in purple and white’s fortunes. Excel Mouscron were 2-0 up after just a quarter of an hour with goals from Mbeye Leye on 7 minutes and Mario Bakic on 15 minutes. A Bakkali header was Anderlecht’s only serious chance of the half. Mouscron remained in command and there were chances for Benson and Olinga to widen the score.

In the second half Dimata gave Anderlecht fresh hope with a goal on 77 minutes. However, it was over and out for the visitors when Mbeye Leye made it 3-1 to Excel Mouscron three minutes later. The result sees Excel Mouscron move up to 14th place. After 20 games they have 17 points. Sporting Anderlecht are 6th with 31 points. 

A convincing win for Standard

Standard de Liège have moved up to 4th place in the league after a 3-1 home win against KV Oostende. All Standard’s goal came in the first half with Moussa Djenepo putting the home side one-up on 2 minutes, Razavin Marin made it 2-0 on 12 minutes and the match was pretty much done and dusted when Zinho Vanheusden (top photo) made it 3-0 on 23 minutes.

An Indy Boonen goal in the second minute of stoppage time was all that KV Oostende goal offer in return. The result leaves Standard 4th with 33 points. KV Oostende are 12 with 22 points. 

Derby win for Waasland-Beveren

Waasland-Beveren move further from foot of the table thanks to a 2-1 home win in the derby against Sporting Lokeren. There were Nana Opoku Ampomah put Waasland-Beveren 1-0 up on 27 minutes. Francesco Forte made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on 52 minutes. Mehdi Terki pulled one back for Sporting Lokeren on 70 minutes. The result leaves Sporting Lokeren bottom with 14 points from 20 games. Waasland-Beveren are 14 with 20 points. 

No goals at Sint-Truiden

Sint-Truiden’s home game against KV Kortrijk ended in a goalless draw. The result leaves Sint-Truiden 5th with 32 points from 20 games. KV Kortrijk are 10th with 25 points.
