“Kalashnikov fired on Louisalaan”

A member of the public is said to have fired a Kalashnikov rifle in a brasserie on the Louisalaan in downtown Brussels. Brussels public prosecutors have confirmed the use of a combat firearm, but further investigation and ballistic reports will have to establish the exact nature of the firearm.

It was shortly before 10AM on Christmas Eve that shots rang out on the upmarket avenue noted for its luxury stores.  An eyewitness recounts how bullets were fired at the window of a brasserie.  The attacker quickly fled the scene.

Police officers rushed to the area where a full investigation is underway.  First indications point to three shots being fired.  Fortunately nobody was injured.

The attacker hasn't yet been identified, but investigators are trying to establish the motive for the attack.
