No Golden Globe for ‘Girl’

‘Girl’ by the Flemish Director Lukas Dhont has failed to take this year’s Gold Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. The award went to the Mexican Director Alfonso Cuarón’s film ‘Roma’. Alfonso Cuarón also took the award for Best Director.

It was widely expected that the battle for the Best Foreign Language Film Award would be a two-horse race between ‘Girl,’ a film about a 15—year-old transgender ballerina, and Alfonso Cuarón’s black and white film about a maid in 1970’s Mexico.

In addition to ‘Roma’ and ‘Girl’, ‘Shoplifters’ by the Japenese Director Hirokazu Koreeda, ‘Capernaum’ by the Lebanese Director Nadine Labaki and ‘Never look away’ by the German Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck were also nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
