Coca-Cola to close two distribution centres in Belgium
The soft drinks company Coca-Cola has announced the closure of two of its five distribution centres in Belgium. The closures are part of a wider plan to simplify the company’s distribution procedures and to ensure competitiveness in the future.
The plan will impact 132 people that work at the two distribution centres. However, it hoped that 123 of these can be transferred to Coca-Cola’s other distribution centres.
The decision was announced at an extraordinary meeting of Coca-Cola Belgium’s Works’ Council on Wednesday morning.
The distribution centres in Hasselt (Limburg) and Heppignies (Hainaut). in 2020. Both are solely distribution centres with no production facilities. The centres’ activities will be transferred to other distribution centres in Antwerp and Ghent (East Flanders) and two centres not owned and operated by Coca-Cola.
The company also plans to change the product range on offer in its vending machines. The product range will be expanded to include both warm and cold drinks.
