3 million people visited the Great War battlefields

Over the past 5 years, 3 million people have visited the Westhoek area of West Flanders to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. More than half of all visitors came from abroad. The lions’ share of foreign visitors came from the UK and The Netherlands. Many visitors were school parties. This was especially true in 2014 and 2018.
