Victory for Belgium’s men’s and women’s hockey teams

It has been a good day for Belgian hockey with both our men’s hockey team, the Red Lions and our woman’s hockey team the Red Panthers enjoying wins in the Hockey Pro League against Australia. The Red Lion’s 1-4 win against Australia was their first ever win against the Aussies in Australia.

The victory came despite Beale scoring for Australia in the first minute. However, this failed to shake the Belgians. The Red Lions were by far the stronger team. This was rewarded with an equaliser scored by Dockier at the end of the first quarter.

The Belgian had the lion’s share of the chances in the second quarter too. Hendrickx put the Red Lions 1-2 up after 28 minutes of play.

Dockier scored his second and Belgium’s third goal of the game on 35 minutes. Cosyns made it 4-1 on 40 minutes. A Hendrickx goal was disallowed for dangerous play.

The result was Australia’s first home defeat in 10 years.

Red Panthers beat Australia 1-2

Belgium’s women’s hockey team too enjoyed a victory Down Under. The first half of the game remained goalless. Struijk  opened the scoring for Belgium on 35 minutes.

Versavel made it 0-2 to the red panthers at the end of the third quarter. A 57th minute goal by the Australian Peris made for a full time score of 1-2 in Belgium’s favour.
