Czech Stybar wins opening race of Belgian cycling season

The Czech rider Zdenek Stybar (Deceuninck-Quick Step) has won Saturday’s 74th Omloop Het Nieuwsblad (WorldTour) race. The race marks the start of the new cycling season in Belgium. 

The Czech former World Champion was the quickest over the 200km course from Ghent to Ninove (both East Flanders).

Second place was the Fleming Greg Van Avermaet (CCC). Another Belgian Tim Wellens was 3rd.

Zdnek Stybar’s win in the opening Flemish Spring Classic is the Czech second race victory of the year. Previously he won a stage in the Tour of the Algarve. The win was the twelfth this year by a rider from Stybar’s Deceuninck-Quick Step team.
