Woman from Flemish Brabant drowns at Dutch seaside resort

A 45-year-old woman from the Flemish Brabant town of Vilvoorde has drowned in the sea off Renesse in the Dutch province of Zeeland. She was part of a group that was walking on the beach and ran into trouble when they was caught off-guard by the tide. 

The emergency services were able to rescue a 23-year-old woman from Renesse, an 8-year-old girl from Vilvoorde and a 17-year-old boy from Vilvoorde from the waters of the North Sea. However, it then emerged that the children’s mother was still missing.

A search and rescue operation involving a Coast Guard helicopter and a boat from the Royal Dutch Rescue Company (KNRM) was started. The missing woman was found and brought to the beach to the rescue team.   

The four were them taken to hospital by ambulance, where the 45-year-old woman from Vilvoorde later died. .
