What’s the sentence for bomb hoaxes in Belgium?

A man who launched several bomb hoaxes in Brussels has been sentenced to a community service and will also have to pay a fine.  He will also have to foot the bill for all the costs his hoaxes engendered.

In October and December of 2016 the 20-year-old launched several bomb hoaxes threatening atrocities in Brussels.  As a result the Brussels public prosecutor’s office and the civil courts had to be evacuated as well as the Brussels North Station.

Police tracked down the culprit and prosecutors brought him to court.  He has now been sentenced to 300 hours of community service and a 300 euro fine.  He will also have to pay all the costs triggered by the bomb hoaxes totalling some 380,000 euros plus interest charges.  An appeal is still possible.
