Two Belgian children found murdered in Spain

Detectives from the Spanish Guardia Civil have found the bodies of two Belgian children in the town of Godella, in the Valencia region of Eastern Spain. Although the investigation is still ongoing, the Spanish daily El Pais writes that all indications point to the children having been killed by their mother, a 28-year-old Spaniard.

The children’s father, a 30 year-old Belgian says that she had taken the children with her after a blazing row on Wednesday evening and he hadn’t seen them since.

The search for the children started on Wednesday after a neighbour had seen the woman running away from her husband half naked and covered in blood.

The 28-year-old was found later hiding in barrel.

On Thursday after hours of questioning the woman told the police the location of her children’s bodies. It is believed that the children a 3 and a half year old boy and a 5 month old baby girl died of blows that they had sustained.

The mother is being treated as the chief suspect in the case. However, the children’s 30 year-old Belgian father is also being questioned. Early this week the couple had been visited by social services, who were considering taking the children into care due to their poor living conditions.
