The Flemish Health Minister Jo Vandeurzen is saying goodbye to politics after the May elections.

Each day, 60 people suffer a stroke in Flanders: minister launches action plan

Every day, 60 people are suffering a stroke in Flanders, with 11 of them passing away. Health Minister Jo Vandeurzen is taking concrete measures to reduce this number.

Hospitals boasting a specialised stroke unit will be granted a specific recognition. At the same time, it is being investigated whether telemedicine can play a role. In that case, doctors can make a preliminary diagnosis from a distance, and send the patient to hospital if needed.

Strokes are third on the list of death causes in Flanders, after cancer and heart failure.
