Fresh explosion in Antwerp
Antwerp has been the scene of a new explosion, the second in so many weeks. The army bomb squad has just carried out a controlled explosion on a second explosive device.
The incident happened in the De Pretstraat in the same area of the explosion two weeks ago. It was at 4:10 this morning that the emergency services received a first call alerting them to an explosion. Police arriving at the scene encountered five damaged cars. A second explosive device was discovered too. The army bomb squad has now carried out a controlled explosion on it.
The explosion occurred near the Sint-Jansplein in northern Antwerp. It is close to Park Spoor Noord where a first grenade exploded two weeks ago. The explosions are being linked to a settling of accounts in drug circles. Federal and judicial police are at work examining possible links between the explosions now and that a fortnight ago.
