Deal or no deal, Eurostar services will continue to run

The French authorities have granted an operating license to the French arm of the international hi-speed rail operator Eurostar. The granting of a French operating license to Eurostar means that come what may services between Brussels and London and Paris and London will be able to continue to operate.

As Eurostar previously only had a British operating licence a hard Brexit would have meant that it would no longer have automatically had the right to use the rail infrastructure of EU member states.

Eurostar is 55% owned by the French rail company SNCF, Belgium’s state-owned rail company NMBS owns 5%, the Canadian pension fund Caisse de dépôt et placement de Québec owns a 30% with the British investment fund Hermes Infrastructure owning the remaining 10%.
